Cash on delivery

Cash on delivery lets buyers pay the rider when the parcel arrives. On Bazuva you turn it on as a payment method, set its fee on each delivery rate, add rules for where and when it is offered, and choose how orders are confirmed before they go out.

Turn on cash on delivery

  1. Go to Payments → Methods.
  2. Choose New method.
  3. Set Kind to Cash on delivery.
  4. Optionally limit it by order value with Least order and Most order, and add Instructions the buyer reads at checkout.
  5. Keep Offer this method at checkout on.
  6. Choose Add method.

Methods are offered at checkout in the order of the list. Use Move up and Move down in a method’s menu to change the order, and Switch off to stop offering one without deleting it.

Set the fee per zone

A cash-on-delivery fee belongs on the delivery rate, not on the payment method, so each zone can charge its own.

  1. Go to Shipping → Zones and rates and open a zone.
  2. Open a rate, or choose New rate.
  3. Under Cash on delivery, set With this rate to one of:
    • Cash on delivery taken
    • No cash on delivery
    • Cash on delivery only
  4. Type the Fee in taka, such as ৳20. You can add Fee as a share of the order (%) as well; it is added to the fee.
  5. Save the rate.

Checkout shows the fee as its own line. See Shipping zones and rates for the rest of the rate.

Add rules

Rules decide when cash on delivery is refused, or offered only with an advance paid online first. They are read in order, and the first refusal is the reason the buyer reads at checkout.

  1. Go to Payments → Cash on delivery.
  2. Choose New rule.
  3. Choose the Rule:
    • Most order value: refused above an amount.
    • Least order value: refused below an amount.
    • Not for a product, category or vendor: refused when the order holds that product or a vendor’s goods. A category can be chosen, but checkout does not apply it yet, so name the products instead.
    • Not for a place: refused for addresses in a place.
    • First order cap: a phone number with no delivered order may order up to an amount.
    • Advance over a value: above an amount, a share is paid online first.
    • Advance for a risky phone: a phone number that refused deliveries pays an advance first.
  4. Fill in the amount, the advance percentage, the target or the place, as the rule asks.
  5. Keep Apply this rule on and choose Add rule.

With no rules, cash on delivery is offered wherever the delivery rate allows it. An advance needs an online payment method; see Online payments.

A phone number becomes risky when it has refused a number of your store’s deliveries. You set that number with Refused deliveries that make a phone risky in the payment settings below.

Choose how orders are confirmed

Many stores confirm a cash-on-delivery order before sending it, to catch wrong numbers and changed minds. On Payments → Cash on delivery, choose Confirmation settings, then set Confirming cash-on-delivery orders:

  • A call by a person: each order waits in a queue for someone on your team to call.
  • A link sent to the buyer: the buyer receives an email with a link to confirm or cancel the order.
  • At once, unless the buyer is risky: orders are confirmed by themselves, except from risky phone numbers.
  • Not confirmed: orders go straight on.

Also set:

  • Hours to confirm: how long an order waits before it runs out.
  • An order nobody confirmed: Cancel it, or Keep it held for a person to decide.

An order waiting for confirmation is held: it is not sent to fulfilment until it is confirmed.

Work through the confirmation queue

  1. Go to Orders → COD confirmations. Orders waiting for a call are listed with the soonest to expire first, with the total, the risk (Usual or Refused before), the number of calls and when the order expires.
  2. The phone number is masked until you choose Show the phone. Open the row’s menu and choose Call to ring the buyer.
  3. After the call, choose Confirm, Decline (the order is cancelled) or Did not answer from the same menu.

A confirmed order is released for packing and booking. If you have set your courier to book by itself when cash on delivery is confirmed, it is booked straight away; see Connect a courier.
