Discounts and coupons

A coupon takes a percentage or an amount off an order. Customers can type its code at checkout, or you can make it apply by itself to every order that meets its terms. Each coupon can be limited to some products, some customers, a number of uses and a window of time.

Create a coupon

  1. Go to Marketing → Coupons.
  2. Choose New coupon.
  3. Type the Code customers will type, such as LAUNCH25. Capital and small letters count as the same. A code is 3 to 40 letters, digits, hyphens or underscores.
  4. Give it a Name, the name you know it by; it is shown beside the code.
  5. Under Takes off, choose Percentage (such as 25 %) or Fixed amount (such as ৳500), and type the Percent or the Amount.
  6. Optionally set Least it applies to, the smallest order the coupon works on.
  7. Choose Create coupon.

The code, whether it applies by itself, and whether it is a percentage or an amount cannot be changed once the coupon exists. Make a new coupon if you need different terms.

Apply a discount without a code

Turn on Apply automatically, without a code when you create the coupon. It is then taken off every order that meets its terms, and nobody types anything. When several automatic discounts could apply, checkout takes the best one for the buyer.

Limit who, what and when

  • Products: limit the coupon to the products you pick, or leave it to take off every product.
  • Customers: limit it to the customers you pick, or leave it for anyone. You can also set how many times each customer may use it.
  • Uses in all: the total number of times the coupon can be used. Leave it empty for no limit.
  • Valid from and Valid until: the window when the coupon works. A coupon ends as its last day begins. Leave them empty to start now and never end.

A guest who checks out without an account is counted per checkout.

How coupons work at checkout

  • A buyer can use one coupon code per order. A code they type replaces any other code or automatic discount; removing it brings the automatic discount back.
  • The discount is taken off the products before delivery and tax are added.
  • If an order is cancelled, the coupon’s use is given back.
  • A code that stops applying, for example because the cart changed, is removed from the order and the buyer sees the new total before placing it.

Pause, resume and archive

Open a coupon to see its Terms and its Uses: who used it, when, and how much it took off. Under Switch:

  • Pause stops the code being honoured for now; Resume turns it back on.
  • Archive coupon retires it for good. The uses already made stand.

The list on Marketing → Coupons shows each coupon’s status: active, scheduled, paused, expired, used up or archived.
