Getting started

Add your first product

A product on Bazuva has one editor for everything: its words, pictures, price, stock, delivery details and variants. A live preview beside the form shows the product page as you type. This page takes you through a first product from start to finish.

Before you start: make a category

Every product belongs to a category, the place it is listed first. If your store has no categories yet, make one before you add a product.

  1. Go to Products → Categories.
  2. Choose New category.
  3. Type its name. Leave Under at At the top for a top-level category, or choose a parent.
  4. Keep Shown on the site on so the category has its own page on your storefront.
  5. Choose Create category.

You can drag categories to rearrange the tree later, and click a name to rename it.

Add the product

  1. Go to Products → Add product.
  2. Under Title & description, type the Title, such as “Jamdani saree”, and a Description. Say what it is made of, how it feels and who it is for.
  3. Under Media, choose Add media, pick or upload images from your media library, and choose Add to the product. The first image is the one shown wherever the product appears; drag to change the order. You can also add a YouTube or Vimeo link with Add video.
  4. Under Pricing, type the Price. If the product used to sell for more, type that in Compare-at price; it is shown struck through.
  5. Under Inventory, add an SKU and a Barcode if you use them. Keep Count its stock on and type how many are Available at each location. Turn on Keep selling when it is out of stock only if you want orders to continue at zero.
  6. Under Shipping, keep It is sent to the buyer on for a physical product, and type its Weight. Couriers and weight-based rates use it.
  7. Under Organisation, choose its Category. You can also add a brand and tags here.
  8. Choose Create product, or press ⌘S (Ctrl+S on Windows).

A new product is saved as a draft until you set it active. Only your staff can see a draft.

Sell it in sizes or colours

If the product comes in options such as size or colour, add them under Variants.

  1. Choose Add an option, such as size or colour.
  2. Type the Option name, such as “Size”.
  3. Type each value and press Enter, such as S, M and L.
  4. Add a second option the same way if you need one, such as “Colour”.

Every combination of values becomes a variant, listed in a grid with its own price, SKU and stock. To change many at once, select the variants and choose Edit selected variants, or use Fill down to copy the first row’s value to every variant. For colour options you can set Swatches, and give every variant of a colour its own image.

Check the steps before publishing

The section rail on the left of the editor shows Product completeness. Four steps are required before a product can be active:

  • Add a title
  • Choose a category
  • Add at least one image
  • Set a price (or Price every variant on sale for a product with variants)

The rail also suggests steps that help customers and search engines, such as a description of 40 characters or more, alt text for every image, and a search description. Click any step to jump to its field.

Make it live

  1. Under Status, choose Active. An active product can be found and bought by customers.
  2. Under Publishing, keep When I set it Active to publish it straight away, or choose On a date to publish it later. You can also set a day to Take it down.
  3. Choose Save.

Use View on store at the top of the editor to open the product page. Other statuses are Unlisted (reachable by its address only, not listed or searchable) and Archived (hidden from the store, with its orders and reports kept).

More you can add

The editor has further sections for Selling rules (such as the least and most a buyer can order), Key features, Product details, Search & URL for how the product appears in search engines, and Custom data for fields of your own. You can fill these in at any time.

If you already have your products in Shopify, you can bring them all in at once; see Import products from Shopify. More about products: Products.
